I'm looking for something fast and not too expensive, maybe $3-4K range.
mostly I use Photoshop, Premiere, some Maya. It is mostly editing and processing for various formats. Do you have any recommendations? |

Dell Precision T7500 or even T5500 will be perfect for that.
You can build and configure your own system according to your budget. Very reliable desktop for editing. |

Do you have any experience building computers or know someone who does? Most retail desktops cheap out on various parts, such as the power supply. If you are able to, custom building a pc for video editing will get you much better results.

I would say get a pre-made computer with a decent motherboard (IE core2duo) and expandable video card (like a compaq for around $350)...and then start tuning it

I think you do not have to buy a desktop computer sales in a single package, if you are someone who is engaged in video editing then I strongly suggest to focus on RAM and VGA, for your RAM requires at least 2 GB of memory, whereas for you at least need 1 VGA GB and bitrate 128bit.

I've tried Apple for video editing and it works well for me. I suggest you to use high end computer for this kind of computer activities because it will surely require a bit larger memory than just the usual computer for office works.

If you have that money to spend, try Mac Pro. It has got a Intel quad core chip, ram is upgrade is up to 16gb, you can put as many as 4 hard drives. Video card option is very good too.
I suggest starting out with the basic configuration, then you can always upgrade when the need arises. |
